Our history

Terrace Bay is a town with a rich and fascinating history that dates back to the Ice Age. About 20,000 years ago, the area was covered by glaciers that left behind sand and gravel terraces when they receded. These terraces gave the town its name and are still visible today. Terrace Bay was founded in the 1940s as a model one-industry community for the forestry sectorThe town was built around the Kimberly-Clark pulp and paper mill, which was established to exploit the abundant timber resources in the region. Terrace Bay became a thriving and prosperous town, attracting workers and families from different backgrounds and cultures. Terrace Bay also has a strong connection to the railway, as it was once a flagstop on the C.P.R. line called Black. Today, Terrace Bay is a vibrant and diverse town that has adapted to the changing times and challenges. The town has transformed its economy, culture, and environment to meet the needs of its residents and visitors.
